What is COP?
The Conference of Parties (COP) is an annual meeting held under the auspices of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) to assess progress in dealing with climate change. These meetings have been held since the UNFCC entered into force in 1995 as a result of the agreement by world leaders that urgent action had to be taken in response to the looming global disaster of catastrophic climate change. Thus the COP adopts decisions and resolutions, published in reports of the COP. Successive decisions taken by the COP make up a detailed set of rules for practical and effective implementation of the agreed convention.

The Concept
The COP 17 will be held in Durban from 28 November to 9 December 2011, as it is being held closer to home, Development Reality Institute in partnership with African Capacity Building Society will be live streaming the Conference of Parties as it will be taking place and other side events. This live streaming will bring COP to you live and in real time through a video conferencing facility in the DRI boardroom thereby saving on travel costs which add up to the CO2 emissions. Decision on the host of COP 18/CMP 8
The State of Qatar and the Republic of Korea have agreed to closely cooperate to make the next major UN Climate Change Conference at the end of 2012 a success.
The 2012 UN Climate Change Conference, COP 18/CMP 8 (the 18th Conference of Parties to the UNFCCC, plus the 8th session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol), will take place in Qatar from 26 November to 7 December 2012.
